I am (hopefully) back!!

Sun Nov 17, 2013, 6:20 PM
Long story short I have been absent from dA due to a combination of art block, real life and work kicking my arse bigtime plus some problems with my account. But anyway, I am hopefully back for the time being and will be posting some new stuff soon.

One of the things I was doing was re-jigging my Etsy shop and you can now buy historic costume inspired jewellery there so check it out! I'll be uploading some pictures of my latest designs onto dA over the next few days.

I have also set up a dress diary on tumblr, which I am using to document my sewing projects. I say dress diary, but will also feature traditional craft and sewing projects too as I have fallen in love with 19th century patchwork. Check it out for lots of notes and progress photos of what I am currently working on.

Finally, to the handful of people I owe gift art/trades to, I haven't forgotten you (much as it may seem that I have) and I apologise for the delay. I will be working through my backlog ASAP!!

I trained as a Costume Designer/Maker and now I spend my time making costumes, clothing and other sewn items for stage and individual customers, as well as designing and making jewellery, doing illustrations and working part time with a local costume collection.

I get inspiration from history, the natural world and artists or artistic movements that I admire. I'm particulary fond of the Arts and Crafts Movement, William Morris, Japonisme, Indienne printed cottons and embroidery, antique lace, 18th C. botanical illustrations and silk taffeta. When I'm not hunched over a sewing machine, desk or computer I am usually outside in my garden with a book, or in the kitchen baking, depending on the weather!

I actually visited Gawethorpe Hall this Thursday just gone.  If I had known a fellow DA member worked there I would have said hello!  It really is a small world.

I'll say hello if I visit again. :)

Ahh thankyou! When I was responding to stuff the other day I didn't get chance to look at people's galleries because I was in a hurry. I just looked at your gallery and I love all your ASOIAF and Tudor era stuff so I am going to watch you right back!

Aw, yay - exact same for me.  I was thanking your for the llama and was like oh, I must watch this person, right?  When I saw I wasn't, I was kind of surprised cause I love your gallery!  Thanks so much!  I gotta get back to the Tudors stuff - I know there are fans out there!

Well I guess that;s one thing random llamas are good for! :D

I really want to do some Tudor drawings too, or maybe Stuart as I just went to an exhibition of 17th century embroidery which was amazing. So inspiring! I wish there were more historic artwork fans/artists here on dA.

Yep, I'm thinking I just forgot to hit watch a while back.  Glad we're connected now!  Your costume work is super awesome!  One of these days I swear I'm going to make a corset.
